Blueberries: Fertilizer and more Mulch!

I was looking at my blueberry bushes yesterday and noticed that the new growth was a light, almost yellowy, green color. A sign (I think...) that they need fertilizer. Or horse manure, in this case. ;) I also noticed the mulch I had put around the bushes this spring seemed rather flat and getting farther away from the plants. So!

I made some horse manure "tea" and let it sit overnight. (About a gallon of poo to 5 gallons of water.)  I also gathered together a pile old hay for mulch.

Then today, I pulled back the old mulch around the plant.

Look at that DIRT!!! Gorgeous! :D It was so dark and moist, and each plant I uncovered had an earth worm squirming around. I was so pleased! :)

I took a little more than a gallon of the manure tea for my 4 plants. Giving each about a quart, around the base of the plant. :) Isn't it lovely??

Then I covered them back up! :) Piling the old mulch up close.

And here they are again, with more mulch. Is it possible to mulch blueberries too much?? I'll have to look that up. :P

I also "watered" the mulch, since it was very dry. I thought a little water would help it decompose a bit quicker. :) I'm finding more and more that I'd love to have a blueberry farm someday...
